How to use a festival
The date is for timing. Publish in the week people are already thinking about it and let the content stay ours. A family scene that happens to fall at Ganesh Chaturthi works. Diyas as a border, our colours changed for the week, or a festival offer does not.
The three to plan early: Diwali on 8 Nov and Pi Day on 14 Mar are the two biggest of the year, and Teachers' Day on 5 Sep is the closest to what we sell. All three want deciding months ahead, not weeks.
Research you can name
Studies we have checked, with the institution attached. This is the half that earns the save. A post that only describes what a parent already feels is recognition; a post that tells them something checkable is worth keeping.

How we read this
Every entry has a trap. Each one was already written into a draft before somebody caught it. Read the trap before you use the finding, not after.
Verified is not the same as cleared. These are third-party findings, usable with attribution on our own channels. A number only goes in published work once it exists in the approved facts list.
Harvard1990owned channels
Eric Mazur — conceptual vs procedural
His own students solved hard problems, then two-thirds failed a plain-words conceptual test.
Use it for
Showing that getting the answer right is not the same as understanding. Strong for parents who see good marks.
On the credential
Harvard physics. The name carries on its own.
The trap
He is a COUNTER-EXAMPLE to any 'they never had to choose' argument — his students knew the topic. Use it for procedure-vs-understanding, never for lack of challenge.
Stanford1945owned channels
George Pólya — How to Solve It
Four steps: understand the problem, devise a plan, carry out the plan, look back.
Use it for
Naming a method that predates us. Any answer about how to approach an unfamiliar problem.
On the credential
ETH Zürich 1914-40, then Stanford 1940-53, where he wrote the book. Stanford is true and is a stronger credential than 'a popular mathematician'.
The trap
NOT 'spent forty years then published in 1945' — that would start at seventeen. He published in 1945 and carried on ~20 years after. Step three is 'carry out the plan', not 'do the calculation'. He described method, not neuroscience — never 'what goes on in our brain'.

Mueller & Dweck — the praise study
~5th graders, Raven's matrices, all told they had done well. Those praised for intelligence then chose an EASIER task and cared more about performance goals; those praised for effort chose the harder one.
Use it for
What praise does to a child's appetite for difficulty. J. Personality and Social Psychology.
On the credential
SHE WAS AT COLUMBIA IN 1998 and moved to Stanford in 2004. 'Dr. Carol Dweck at Stanford' (the person) is fine. 'Research from Stanford' (this study) is WRONG.
The trap
The study tested PRAISE, not difficulty. Saying she 'proved what happens when things stay too easy' misdescribes it — extending it to never-challenged children is a fair coach's OBSERVATION and must be framed as one. Percentages could not be confirmed: use the direction, not a number.

Robert Bjork — desirable difficulties
Performance during practice is a poor indicator of long-term learning. Massed practice gives high immediate performance and weak retention. His four desirable difficulties: spacing, interleaving, testing, generation.
Use it for
Why a child who looks fluent in the lesson forgets it by the weekend. Puts our spacing and interleaving under one external, checkable name.
On the credential
UCLA, memory research.
The trap
'The brain builds permanent pathways' is false and is the OPPOSITE of his framework — he measures relative durability and decay. Never 'permanent'. Never brain-mechanism language. Spacing CONTRIBUTES TO transfer; it is not why a child handles an unseen question.

NCTM — support productive struggle
Productive struggle is one of eight named teaching practices. Same document defines fluency as efficient, flexible and accurate — speed is not mentioned.
Use it for
The fluency definition is the strongest single line we have against speed-as-mastery.

The trap
They are TEACHING PRACTICES, not 'standards' — NCTM's Standards are separate documents. Note: 'productive struggle' sits on our internal-only ban list but the doctrine is name-the-canon-translate-ours, and this IS canon. That entry is arguably mis-filed — raise it with whoever owns the ban list. 'interleaving' and 'retrieval practice' stay banned.

Use it for
Why 'ask them to walk you through it' is a real diagnostic and not just a nice idea.
